01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

A short walk through the atmospheric streets of Arakicho brings you to the 2nd floor of a nondescript building, where Chinese cuisine You-En operates in a calm, wood-accented dining room. A natural way to start the evening is the 8-dish appetizer platter, which draws on seasonal seafood and produce brought in fresh from the market each morning. Plates might include sea urchin with yuba, kelp-cured grunt fish, or seared Wagyu beef accented with sansho pepper sauce, setting a measured rhythm as glasses of beer, wine, or Shaoxing wine are poured around the table.

Texture, Heat, and Aromatic Mains

The main courses sustain that momentum through contrasting textures and aromatic sauces. Amadai tilefish is fried so its scales crisp up beneath a blanket of glossy Chinese sauce, while lightly battered pike conger is enlivened with fragrant, numbing mala sauce heavy on Sichuan pepper. Laziji brings deep-fried chicken tossed with an abundance of dried chillies and sansho peppercorns. To finish, groups often share bowls of fragrant black fried rice, deeply savory XO sauce fried rice, or a balanced, warming dandan noodles.

Lunch Crowds and Planning Your Visit

During weekday lunch, the restaurant shifts into a livelier gear, pairing mains such as yurinchi (crispy chicken in scallion-vinegar sauce) and dandan noodles with a buffet spread of cold starters and salads. Evenings draw a steady crowd ordering across the seasonal à la carte menu, so reserving a table in advance is strongly recommended.
